Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brother Jeramy inallow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

I knew an anointed man in the 1970s who was in his forties. Some of the elders questioned his status but that was a common attitude to have with the post 1935 anointed.
He was normal though a tiny bit odd when you spoke to him at length. I once asked him how he knew he was anointed. He explained to me how as a child he knew he was different. He said he could feel the Earth rotating under his feet.
He was the life of the party and was very popular with the Witnesses. He would have a party at a restaurant after the Memorial with a lot of people attending. Once he got a bill for $144 and he made a big deal about it.
He wasn't nice to his wife though; he always treated her disrespectfully even though she was a wonderful woman so it was inevitable that they would later divorce. He died in his mid 50s.

What Perry seems to ignore, as a young Earth creationist (?), is that there are religious people who combine the supernatural with straight up evolution. The Jesuit philosopher Teilhard de Chardin was one of them (Yes, I know Perry, he's going to hell for his heresy). -

BU2B,
"Just the other day she threw out a little "magic toy pony" because it was magic and Jehovah hates it."
I hope you fished it out of the trash and put it somewhere secure. She might grow out of the religion as she grows older and would probably cherish the thought of still having that childhood toy.

Brother Jeramy,
"For starters, the preaching work is a commission from Christ, not the Watchtower Society."
Put quite simply it is not Christ you are leading those you preach to but the Watchtower society.

cognitivedizzy,
"Feel like... no words to explain, lost out so much teenage time... and i hate them for that" Same here. I can't blame myself because I was 13 and naïve when I got in, anyone can be fooled at that age. I was 21 when I got df'd for apostasy. Fortunately that was a relatively short period of time but it was the most formative years of my life. No plans for anything since I was living through 1975. Didn't even get my spinal curvature corrected - that can only be done as a teen ager. -

Will they jump of the building?
by John Aquila induring the depression people committed suicide because everything they had invested in was gone overnight in an instant.
many people are very fragile creatures.
if by some freaking chance, (like enron, tiger woods, or the morning of august 1945 in hiroshima) the wts gets caught in a humongous scandal, say like links to human sex trafficking, (i can fantasize right) and the government steps in to investigate and finds them guilty and legally shuts them down permanently, will there be tons of suicides?

John Aquila,
"...the government steps in to investigate and finds them guilty and legally shuts them down permanently, will there be tons of suicides?"
Perhaps a few but not that many. Power hungry elders will probably step in to fill the void. The prospect of becoming a GB member or one of the top dogs will be a lure for them.
During Rutherford's reign up to 3/4 of the witnesses left. It was still able to grow again and bigger than before.
However, what may be interesting to see is what would happen if the GB were to abandon the Organization with tens of millions of dollars in their pockets. Even then the Witnesses will think that the forces of evil killed them or that they are hiding from persecution, ready to communicate with them in secret, since the end is near.
Also, it is very doubtful that government has the power or inclination to shut down any religion.
